Born in that part of Sumner County TN that became part of Trousdale County. Followed older brother David Beard to Butler County KY where he married Albinia Snodgrass in 1854. She died in 1857 and William Beard married Mary Thomas Porter, April 4, 1861, they had nine known children.

The family stayed in the Sugar Grove KY area until after the 1880 census when they removed to Warren County KY.

The 1870 census shows a John Beard living with the family. He was the son of William Beard's brother, James A Beard who had died in Alabama.
