(A poem written to Betty Ann (Shere) Swinehart by her brother, David Shere.

A tribute to you, lovely sister,
Born in a small, frame house in Welch, OK, in 1941;
Raised in a Phillips' pipeline camp, you grew up in Kansas state.
Who could have guessed what an amazing journey had just begun?
You followed your heart, left home, and became a sailor's first mate.

A wife, mother of 5, a grandmother of 16 and then
A great-grandmother 27 times, just for good measure;
You loved and cherished each and every one of your kids and kin,
Counting each fam'ly gathering a new mem'ry to treasure!

Always there for me, like the time I clung to you and cried
On that quiet, early Sunday morning (I was just 14) when
you told me, you were sorry, but, last night, our daddy died.
Your loving comfort helped ease the pain I felt inside back then.

This is the lasting legacy we have been given from you:
For all of us you gave to, you always gave your very best,
So for all the wonderful times shared o'er the years we've been through,
We give to God our heartfelt thanks for having been so blessed!
---Your Devoted Little Brother, David Shere
