CUMBERLAND - Though sudden and unexpected, Sandra Lee (Stotler) Burton passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2023, with her children at her side. Born in Berkeley Springs, WV on March 11, 1941, Sandra was the daughter of the late Barthol and Beulah Frances (Newbraugh) Stotler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rex W. Burton, who she met in Winchester, VA in 1963.

Sandra loved her family with her whole heart. She and Rex have two children, Beth Ann Stafford, who with her husband, Joel, live in Mt. Airy, MD, and Michael R. Burton, who with his wife, Michelle, live in Fairbanks, Alaska. They have one granddaughter, Laura Beth (Stafford) Strunk, who lives with her husband, Phil, and Sandra's great grandson, Ezekiel, in Winchester, Virginia.

Sandra loved her home and was an avid gardener. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed baking apple pies, Christmas cookies, and other sweets; playing bridge with her many friends; playing tennis, and most recently, pickleball. She also enjoyed helping her daughter shop and organize shoebox stuffers for packing parties for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse. Sandra had a gift for sending cards and writing notes of encouragement and gratitude to her family and friends. Her own kindness and generosity was felt by so many. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland, serving as an elder and on the Worship and Music Committee. She was also a member of the Mary Kay Daily Foundation, Western Maryland Hospital Auxiliary and supported Rex in his various positions on Community Board foundations.
