Funeral service for Gertrude Marie Hade were held 1 March 2006 at the Salmon Presbyterian Church with Pastor Heidi Smith conducting. Burial was in the Salmon Cemetery under the auspice of the Anna Rebekah Lodge #14. Gertrude, 95, passed away 26 February 2006 at the Discovery Care Center in Salmon. She was born 28 September 1910 in Junction, now Leadore, the youngest of five children born to Edward Guy and Genevia Vezina Denny. When Gertrude was a young child, her mother was killed in an avalance near the Hahn Town site. The family was separated after the accident and Gertrude and her sister, Ellen were raised by her grandparents and attended school in Salmon. Gertrude married Clyde Hawley and to this union two sons, Clyde and Denny,were born. She was a cook in local restaurants and during the war years, she worked as a welder for Kaiser Ship yards in Portland, Oregon. After Clyde's death in 1945 she married Tom Ball and they continued to make their home in Salmon. Gertrude cooked for the school lunch program for many years. When Tom died, Gertrude met and married Dr. Laurel Hade. They made their home in Coeur d'Alene and Caldwell. After Dr. Hade's death in 1968, she returned to Salmon and cooked at the Steele Memorial Hospital for many years and also worked as a volunteer at the Lemhi Historical Museum. She was secretary of the Lemhi Historical Society from 1985-1986. She was active in the Presbyterian Church and was also an active member of the Anna Rebekah Lodge #14. She is survived by one son, Clyde (Mary Joyce) Hawley of Nampa; daughter-in-law, Rosalee Hawley of Salmon; five grandchildren, Becky Hawley, Briggs Hawley, James Hawley, Mary (Steve)Hill, Doug (Maria) Hawley; five great-grandchildren, Asia and Tyler Hawley, Jack, Matthew and Nicole Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Denny Hawley; husbands, Clyde Hawley, Tom Ball and Dr. Laurel Hade; three brothers, Louie, Guy and Morris Denny; and one sister, Ellen Osbourne. Arrangements were under the direction of the Jones and Casey Funeral Home of Salmon.
