Ignatz, or Egnaty Mokowich was born in Belarus, the Russian Empire, and immigrated to the United States as a young man, in 1907. His father was Roman Mokowich, and his mother is listed as M. Pehota on his marriage record. He married Magdeliena Stankiewicz on 5 May, 1912, in Manhattan, New York City, New York. He was 21 years old. In 1920, when he was 28 years old, census records show he was living in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, with his wife and three young children. His oldest son is Stephen Mokowich, then daughter, Sonia, or Sophie, and then Alexander. He worked for General Electric. In 1942, on his draft registration card, he is living in Pittsfield, but his wife is in Lanesborough, Massachusetts. He died in Amsterdam, New York, at age 64, and is buried in Schenectady.
