Eugene Lucien Hebert, affectionately known to many as Neg, passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at his home in Charenton, where he was a longtime resident. He was born in Jeanerette on December 13, 1942 and was the eldest of four children born to the union on Francis L. Hebert and Viola Mary Guillotte. A veteran of the United States Navy, he honorably served his country from May 1960 to December 1963.
Those he leaves to cherish his memory include his three children, Rona and husband Jed, Eugene and companion Katherine, and Cindy and her partner Tina; five grandchildren, Hollie and her husband BJ, Jake and companion Jenny, Chay and husband Patrick, Bryce and wife Hailey, and Braylon; and great grandchildren, Kathryn, James, and Remy, Evangeline and Ezra, and Bodie, Megan, and Brandon; three siblings, Carolyn, Harrison and wife Charlotte, and Pamela; as well as a host of niece, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verda "Dookie" Persilver Hebert; his parents, Francis Lucien Hebert and Viola Mary Guillotte; and his brothers-in-law, James "Jimmy" Maturin and William James Rogers Sr.
Funeral services celebrating Neg's life will be held Friday, February 17, 2023, during a 1:00 PM memorial service at Little Pass Baptist Church in Charenton with a gathering of family and friends from 11:00 AM until time of service. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
