Capt John Amick, well and favorable known to many of our old Confederate soldiers, died at his home in Fayette county, on the 6th inst, aged 63 years, 8 months and 8 days. He was a native of Greenbrier. When the Yankees were on their way to Lewisburg, just before the battle at Tuckwiller's Hill, they captured Mr Amick in Fayette and held him a prisoner one night at Mr Deal's. Durig the night Amick slipped out of a small window in the room, and, without coat or shoes on, drove off a yoke of oxen the Yankees had taken from him, got a horse, swam Meadow river, came hurriedly to Lewisburg and informed Col Edgar of the intentions of the Fedefral soldiers.
We know the result. After this he commanded a company of home guards attached to the Confederate service.
He was an excellent citizen and a member of M E Church, South.
