Joan was born in Brooklyn New York on May 6, 1939, the daughter of the late Edmund P. and Gertrude (Merritt) Power. She was raised and educated in Worcester MA, graduating from Notre Dame Academy in 1956. Joan continued her education at Emmanuel College, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1960. Joan and John married on February 16, 1963. The couple settled in Stow to raise their growing family together.
Joan was a passionate and caring teacher in the Maynard school system for many years. She primarily taught special education at Fowler Middle School and Green Meadow Elementary School.
Joan was a compassionate supporter of St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota in addition to sponsoring a child in a developing country.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Joan on Thursday June 9, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St. Maynard. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday June 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bridget's Church, One Percival St. Maynard. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.
