Obituary: Carl died of smallpox. He was at the fair in Corsicana, exhibiting the prize . winning Rhode Island Red chickens. He had started the Cedar Hill Poultry Farm. After he became ill, he was cared for by his father's sister and husband, Ellen and Aralza Hall. He was thought to be recovering but took a turn for the worse. His body had to be brought to Frost by the train and buried at night because of the great fear of smallpox
Inscription: A precious one from us has gone. A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home. Which never can be filled. God in his wisdom has recalled. The boon his love had given. And though the body slumbers here. The soul is safe in heaven.
