Kamilah Isoke Abeni-Taylor
July 18, 1977 - February 15, 2023

Kamilah ("Mimi") Isoke Abeni-Taylor, 45, of Dallas, Texas, was granted her wings on February 15, 2023. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her memorable life. Born in Riverside, California on July 18, 1977, her mother recalls her active nature as the only sister among two brothers and male cousins. As a child, she loved climbing trees, listening to music, playing basketball, and reading.

Kamilah's life was one of impact. She followed in the footsteps of her parents, both of whom were community-focused and activists. She was a selfless person in all aspects of her life and was truly one who was able to find joy, even in the simplest things. She counted among her loves a traveling spirit that took her to numerous states; however, she was most proud of fulfilling her lifelong dream, traveling to Nigeria and having the strength to climb Olumo Rock, one of the highest mountains, despite health challenges.

Kamilah was a friend to anyone she met. When she met a stranger, they were not a stranger for long because of her giving nature. Diagnosed with sickle cell disease from a young age, she had a heart for Children's Medical Center where she received care as a child. She was an advocate for sickle cell education and treatment and had goals of increasing awareness through a foundation or charitable event. For more than 20 years she worked alongside physicians at Texas Oncology, caring for patients and families as they battled terminal illness. She valued and was valued by her "work family."

She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus Taylor, Jr., brother Mungu Simpkins, father Ifayomi "Karioki" Fagbenro Amusan (Arthur Riggins), aunt Zodie Davis, maternal grandparents Allie Mae Mitchell and CleVaughn Simpkins, paternal grandparents Arthur Riggins, Sr. and Doris Wiley.

Kamilah leaves to cherish loving memories, her mother Alva Jean Simpkins (Amani NaUhuru), brother Jaja NaUhuru, daughters: Tatianna Abeni, Takeya Abeni, Taneza Abeni, Aliyah Abeni-Taylor, stepdaughter Alyssa Taylor; granddaughters Amelia (Taneza) and Amira (Takeya); future son-in-law Vanoy Harris. Other siblings include Talibah Ometu, Narada Omikunerede, Olugunwa Omikunerede, Oluwasegun Omikunerede, Olayinka Omikunerede, Ifatade Tyson and Ifakorede Riggins. She also leaves behind a host of family, extended family, and friends that adored her dearly.
