After graduating from Mississippi State University with a major in accounting and as a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, he took a job with International Paper as a CPA. He soon proved his talent in the finance department and was transferred to the Manhattan office and took his young family to live in Darien, CT. The family enjoyed 11years in Darien before moving south to Houston, TX, still with IP. He was next recruited to Pittsburgh, PA, where he served as CFO of Joy Technologies, taking pride in his work. After retiring, while living back in the Houston area, Al visited Taos, NM, to escape the heat and fell in love with the high desert beauty. He surprised his family by declaring he was buying a second home there during his second visit to Taos. He and his wife later moved to McKinney, TX, and were blessed to be able to go back and forth from McKinney to Taos, between daughters and especially the grandkids! He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in both McKinney and Taos.
Al will always be remembered for his immense love of nature, a fulfilling and successful career in finance which took him around the world, and his enjoyment of music, skiing, golf and his beloved dogs. He was a loving husband, a nurturing father and a really fun granddad. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Carpenter Daffin, two daughters and their families, and his sister, Mrs. Darlene Lominick.
A graveside service will be held at the New Bethel cemetery near Rossville, TN.
