Ronald Thomas (Tommy) Oakes, 43, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 11, 2006. Mr. Oakes was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in the 18th Airborne and later in the 1st Battalion 75th Field Artillery at Ft. Bragg, N.C., and Bamburg, Germany. He attained the rank of sergeant (E-5). He is survived by his parents, Stephen K. and Nancy Oakes of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Stephen Daniel Oakes of Charlottesville, Va.; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Rosabelle Trimmer of Richmond, Va.; four uncles, Robert K. (Rusty) Trimmer of Richmond, Melvin L. (Mike) Trimmer of Prince George, Va., Charlie L. Oakes of Morgantown, W.Va., and Rev. Ronald Wade of Lanexa, Va.; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Cremation & Burial Society, 1927 Westmoreland St. Family and friends will be notified of day and time of service. Afterwards, his remains will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
