On Nov 17, 1910, James married Damaris Dee Scobee, born in Kentucky (1889-1981). Damaris was a daughter of James William Scobee, born in Kentucky (1852-1940), and Susan Elizabeth Bowen, born in Virginia (1856-1912).
James and Damaris settled in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, where James held the degree of Doctor of Pharmacy, and owned a drug store.
