Professional Wrestling Promoter. Business Entrepreneur. He started in pro wrestling in 1973, taking over the Mid-Atlantic territory after his father, Jim Crockett Sr died. During his time as the owner of Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling/Jim Crockett's Promotions, he served three terms as president of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), the first run was in 1980 until 1982. He in November of 1983 took his territory to bigger success nationwide with his expansion starting with the inaugural Starrcade, with Dusty Rhodes as his booker shortly thereafter in an attempt to compete with Vince McMahon Jr's World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which was also into the early days of expanding. In his second term as NWA President, he expanded the promotion into newer territories after buying out Bill Watts's UWF/Mid South, Ole Anderson's Georgia Championship Wrestling, and expanded into the central states, including buying the Georgia TV timeslot from Vince McMahon for $1 million. His time as a promoter came to an end in 1988 after JCP was bought out by Ted Turner, later to become World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
