Lestie Alma Harmon, age 82, of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. Luke's Northland Hospital following a short illness.

Lestie was born August 10, 1925 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Dwight and Lestie (Sherwood) Miller. Spending her formative years in Winnipeg, Lestie was very proud of her Canadian heritage. During World War II she moved to Minneapolis where she worked until the late 1940s. She had a desire to work in San Francisco, California, and on her way there, she stopped to visit her parents who had moved to Lamar, Missouri to open their own motel business. In Lamar, she met the love of her life, Phil Harmon. They were wed January 19, 1950. Phil wooed her while working for the National Guard in Lamar by picking her up from her job in anything from an Army Jeep to a Sherman Tank. Three children and owning the Dairy Queen in Lamar soon followed. In 1961, they moved to Kansas City. She subsequently became an office manager for Kraft Foods from 1962 until 1971. After the sudden death of her loving husband, Phil, June 28, 1971, Lestie returned to work for various companies as an accountant until retiring in 1990. Lestie always loved to travel. Thanks to her loving family, she was able to see the world. Traveling, family and church were her life's passions. She was an active member of Gashland United Methodist Church and Mount Hope Chapter #74, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Beth & Terry Vaughan, Kansas City, Missouri, and Elaine & Dave McCoy, Parkville, Missouri; her son, Phil Harmon, Gladstone; a sister, Lucille Compton, Redding, California; two brothers, Jay Miller, Carthage, Missouri, and Russell Miller, Redding, California; and two grandchildren, Andrew McCoy and Laurel McCoy.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at Daniel Funeral Home where family will received friends from noon until service time. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Gashland United Methodist Church in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
