Daniel H.L. Brown Sr., 81, was born in Perry County, AL, to the late Sadie Brown and St. Elmo Ballard. He was educated in the Antioch Elementary School and the Perry County Training School. He received his B.A. degree from Bluefield Stage Teachers College, an M.A. degree from Eastern Michigan University, and did graduate work at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. He also studied at the University of Seoul Korea.
A war veteran, Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged earning the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Brown was united in holy matrimony to Ella Louise Turner in October of 1947, and to this union six children were born.
He had been a principal at five elementary schools and retired as co-principal of the Baylor Woodson Elementary Complex in Inkster, MI.
Mr. Brown is survived by his devoted wife, Ella; children, Tennyson Sr., Constance, Daniel Jr., Edward, LaDonna and GerDina; sisters, Pearl E., Johnie Pearl, Elmore and Thelma; brothers, St. Elmo Ballard Jr. and DeVan; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Final services were held on December 14, 2007 at Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church with Pastor Randolph Thomas Sr. officiating. Arrangements were handled by Stinson Funeral Homes.
