He retired from R.R. Donnelly in 1996 and owned Murphy Roofing & Construction. He was a 1957 graduate of West Lebanon High School.
He was born Feb. 28, 1939, in West Lebanon, the son of Theodore R. and Gladys Ruth Hensley Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Billi Murphy. Also surviving: three sons, Mark (Elaina) Murphy, Robert Murphy and Eric (Stacy) Murphy; four daughters, Shelly (Terry) McDaniel, Crystal (Todd) Street, Cheryl Vaught and Nichole (Jay) Hurt; two sisters, Martha (Ralph) Byers and Peggy (Fred) Hobson; three stepchildren, James Stegmoyer, Tammy (Randy) Fulwider and Heather (David) Hoeger; and 22 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Hanover.
