Gordon Alvin Rigby
June 27, 1929 - August 13, 2022
Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, has passed away after 93 wonderful years. We celebrate his steadfast commitment to an obedient and productive life.
He was born in Sugar City, Idaho to Alvin Beck Rigby and Florence Arema Jacobs. He was raised on the family farm in Rexburg and developed characteristics of not being afraid of hard work and not quitting until the job is done. These values shaped him into a man of total integrity.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Southern States and it was there that he gained a testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. He loved teaching about Christ from the scriptures and helping others find the truth. Later in life he would serve two more missions with his dear wife to the Washington D.C. South and Tampa Florida missions.
After his mission, he joined the Army to serve in the Korean War. On his way there by ship the treaty was signed. (He joked it was because they heard he was coming…) He spent two years in Korea as a Sergeant and was an instructor on weapons handling.
Upon returning from Korea, he dated a very beautiful girl who shared his love of dancing and could follow his lead. He and Joan Rae Birch from St. Anthony, Idaho were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 22, 1955. They purchased a farm near Shelley, Idaho and raised five boys with all the life learning skills a farm and animals provide. He worked for the Department of Energy Arco testing site as a Hot Cell Technician full time for 35 years. He was a wonderful provider and patriarch of his family.
Upon retirement he moved to Logan, Utah to be closer to family. He enjoyed investing in real estate, managing and fixing up rentals. The way he treated his renters and took care of his properties is one of the many great examples he leaves to us.
He lived with diabetes for 55 years. His determination to be healthy along with the loving care of his wife, enabled him to live a full and active life. He was always grateful for modern technology and loved his diabetic monitor.
He has stayed involved in the lives of his family and has shown his love of God by his lifelong commitment to the church. He encouraged his family to be true and faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. We will miss him dearly!
He is survived by his wife, Joan Rae Birch Rigby and his five sons and their wives; Bruce (Karla), Alan (Leslie), Shawn (Kim), Scott (Jalyn), and Steven (Shelly). He has 25 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. He also has two surviving sisters; Leann Denning and Lorna Leatham. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Leo, sister Ruth Stallings, and a great grandson Kaleb Rigby.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, August 20th, at 11:00 a.m. and a viewing prior from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Nibley 5th Ward 3701 South 450 West Nibley. A Viewing will also be held at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center Street Logan, on Friday August 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Military honors will be at the Millville Cemetery following services.
