YAKIMA - Louis "Tate" Urvina, Jr., 69, left to be with his Savior Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, leaving behind so many loved ones and happy memories. He was born May 19, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Louis learned the value of hard work early in life while working in agriculture with his family as a child. He had many lifelong friends whom he kept close to him and had no known enemies. Louis was the most giving man his family knew. Due to his giving nature, friends came easily to him and he would give the shirt off his back to any shirtless man walking by, particularly if they were family. He had the best family and taught the importance of family values to his children and grandchildren. He was an accomplished pool player, automobile enthusiast, barbeque cook, handyman, outdoorsman, a member of Sam's Club, and occasional couch potato. He loved holidays and gathering with his friends and family.

Louis "Tate" Urvina Jr. was born to Louis and Cipriana Urvina. He came to Washington during the fifties, working hard in agriculture and as a welder. For many years his work made him known as the "muffler man". On July 27, 1974, he made Betty Gardenhire his wife in Lynnwood.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Urvina of Union Gap; children: Victoria Brooks of Auburn, Ricky (Annette) Kinkade of Denver, Colorado and Rhonda (Jeff) Shafer of Yakima; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his siblings: Lupe Reyes, Mercedes (Bernardo) Trevino, Rosie Reyes, Ricki (Fred) Valenzuela, Julia (Paul) Reboca, Esther (Frank) Bastardo, and Lydia Urvina, all of Yakima, Thomas (Diane) Urvina of Moxee, Rayes (Frank) Flores and Mary (Jerry) Dutton, all of Seattle, and Lucy (Jose Luis) Flores of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Louis was preceeded in death by his parents, brothers: Evaristo Urvina and Silverio Urvina; sister, Frances Urvina; niece, Martha Robal; nephews, Peter Reyes and Nathaniel Stroment; and a great-great niece, Teresa Mora.

Visitation will be at 3:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

The Urvina family and friends would like to thank the doctors and staff of Memorial Hospital and Memorial Hospice Services for making his transition from this world to the next as comfortable as possible.

Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
