Sonja was the daughter of Elbert M.. and Frances H.(Welter) Girt., both of whom preceded her in death. She passed from this life on Tuesday, December 24th 2002, at her home, with her loving husband at her side. She had been diagnosed with the dreaded disease Cancer in April, and fought a courageous battle against the disease and its treatments.
Sonja was raised in Hancock County, Indiana, graduating from Mt. Comfort High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Larry James Turner. on March 30th 1955, in Marion County, Indiana. Sonja & Larry resided near Indianapolis on East 38th street for twenty eight years. She began her working career at Western Electric in Indianapolis as an assembly operator, where she worked for twenty four years. She was transferred in 1985 to the Columbus, Ohio Plant, retiring in 1992. In 1992, Sonja & Larry moved to Vevay, Indiana, and met and maintained many friends. Sonja was known as an excellent cook, and enjoyed cooking for her family. She enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, and had completed many in her lifetime.
Sonja will be sadly missed by her heart broken husband, Larry J. Turner of Vevay, her loving Daughter, Diana L (Turner) Henderson, (Husband Robert) of Patriot, Indiana, her loving son, Mark S Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana. Her grandson, David Michael Pope, great grandaughter, Heaven Nevaeh Trinity Pope. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine (Jerri) Couch., her brother, Elbert "Dean" Girt. and her half sister Kathryn Webb..
