Orval Marlen Loven, 83, died at his home Friday, March 19, 2004 of a cancerous brain tumor. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 23 at 11 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hart, MN. Friends may call from 5-8 Monday, March 22 at the Hoff Funeral Home-Rushford Chapel & 1 hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the East Grace Cemetery, Peterson, MN.
Orval Marlen was born Jan. 13, 1921 to Henry & Clarice [Clarissa] (Hendrickson) Loven at Glenwood township of Winneshiek county [IA]. He was baptized Jan 30, 1921 at Glenwood Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed May 19, 1935. He attended the Rocksvold one-room schoolhouse for 8 years, & graduated with the class of 1939 from Decorah High School. Following high school, he remained at home & famed with his parents. He enjoyed playing softball with the Glenwood team as a catcher that resulted in some championship games. He drove his "Indian" motorcycle down to Texas in 1948 & 1949 for the winter months.
June 22, 1950 he married Lois Marie Blume at Belle Plaine, MN. He continued farming with his dad until they moved to the Peterson area in March 1955. Orval Loven worked at various jobs besides farming & was a member of the Highland Prairie dartball team until they disbanded.
He attended Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson, where he was a member of Lutheran Brotherhood & was financial secretary for many years. In 1998, they joined St. John's Lutheran Church in Hart, where he served as trustee, LLL & LC Extension Fund representative, & was a memberof the evening Bible study group. He enjoyed the annual chicken & ham supper, where he cut many pies. Besides farming & raising a family, he enjoyed going to auctions, woodworking, making unique canes, gardening & visiting. He had a collection of mini-farm machinery.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; 7 sons: Mark (Kathy) Loven of Escondido, CA, Paul Loven of West Brooke, ME. Joel (Julie) Loven of Lanesboro, MN, John (Charlene) Loven of Decorah, James (Bev) Loven of LeRoy, MN, Daniel (Kathy) Loven of Trumansburg, NY, & Philip (Michelle) Loven of Omaha, NE; 2 daughters Ruth Cranley of Lanesboro, MN & Elisabeth (Keith) Alexander of LeMars; 18 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren & 1 brother, Lloyd (Susie) Loven of Dallas, TX.
Orval Marlen Loven was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn daughter; a sister Vivian Niemann; & a daughter-in-law, Linda Loven.

Orval & Lois had 10 children together: Mark , Paul , Joel, John, James, baby girl (1957), Daniel, Ruth, Elisabeth, & Philip.
