Gilbert Chavez, 61, born in Pinos Wells, New Mexico and raised in Albuquerque. He went to be with the Lord on October 6, 1997. He left on earth his loving companion Rosa: his children, Patricia chavez and daughter, Tamara, Thomas Chavez, Mark Chavez, Fay Ray and daughter, Jessica and son, Edward and Julia and Gilbert Ortega. He is also survived by his brother, Pete Chavez and wife Lindell; his sister, Celina Silva and husband, Clory, Tillie Madrid, Sally Madrid, Mary Barros and husband Jim. Gilbert was a general contractor and will always be remembered as one of the few people who was willing to take the time and effort to pass on the skill he mastered. He went to great lengths and personal sacrifice to train others and would not accept anything less than the best. The viewing will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Salazar and Sons, 400 3rd st. SW. Final viewing will be Thursday, October 9, 1997 from 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the church. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 9, 2:30 p.m at Sandia Heights Church of the Nazarene, 2801 Lousiana N.E. The burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where he will be buried next to his parents, Carolina and Alejandro Chavez. In his last moments Gilbert said to his granddaughter, Tamara, "We're only here temporary". Gilbert than mentioned "I should have done this along time ago". That was to accept Christ into his heart; which his brother, Pete, said was his personal inheritance from Gilbert. We greatly appreciated all the family and friends who where there for him with support and encouragement in his battle against Cancer.
