b.27 Sep 1749 York, York, Maine, daughter of Abel Whitney and Mary Cane. Married Caleb Chase 31 Dec 1769 Gorham, Cumberland, Maine, USA. Mother of Mary Morrill nee Chase, Joseph Chase, Abigail Merrill nee Chase, William Hills Chase, Jacob Chase, Amos Chase, Susannah Chase, Joanna Worthern nee Chase, Elizabeth Foss nee Chase, Charlotte Hall nee Chase. Joanna d. 1832 Hanover, Grafton, New Hampshire, age 82. Married Caleb Chase soon after his arrival in Gorham, Maine. In 1779, the family removed to Concord, New Hampshire, where they opened a public house. Caleb was the Town Clerk of Concord from 1780 to 1792. Caleb and Joanna Chase had twelve children. The first five (Mary, Joseph, Abigail, William Hills, and Jacob) were born in Gorham between 1771 and 1778. The remaining seven children (Amos, Susannah, Joanna, Elizabeth, Moses, Charlotte, and William) were born in Concord, New Hampshire.
