Alexander A. Gay. 66, of 17 Cornell Rd., West Hartford, retired vice president and treasurer of the Brown Thompson Inc. department store, died Friday Oquossoc, Me., where he was vacationing. Gay retired from Brown Thomson's in 1936. He was a member of Wyllys Lodge No. 99. AF&AM, of West Hartford, the York and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites, the Sphinx Temple, AAONMS; and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Born July 21, 1891, in Crail, Scotland, he was a son of the late John G. and Margaret (Tait) Gay. He came to Hartford in 1909, and was graduated from the Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University in 1912.

He leaves two brothers, David T. Gay and George R. Gay, both of West Hartford, and a sister, Mrs. Philip W, Bonthron of Laguna Beach, Calif.
