Dorothy Petrik, age 97, of Martin, South Dakota, died Sunday, March 19, 2023 at the Bennett County Hospital in Martin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the New American Legion Hall in Martin.
Burial will follow at the Martin Community Cemetery.

Dorothy May Petrik was born in Bijou Hills, South Dakota, on September 30, 1925, to Norman and Sarah Bond. At the age of three she and her family moved to the Potato Creek area of Washabaugh County. She attended grade school at Green Valley school and high school in Wanblee and later graduated from Bennett County High School in 1943.
Dorothy married John Petrik Jr. on February 5, 1944, and together they ranched and farmed in Bennett County for all of their married life. John passed away in 1996 and Dorothy later moved to make her home in Martin in 2001.

She loved life in the country, gardening, puzzles and cards, as well as baking and cooking of all types. She devoted much of her time and energy to her family's ranching and farming and as caregiver and mother and grandmother to family members. In her later years she served the community through her volunteer work at Community Action.

She leaves to mourn her son Dan (Pam) Petrik of White River and daughter Carol (Dennis) Yohner of Martin, her four grandchildren Lenny Petrik of Rapid City, John (Sarah) Petrik of Pierre, Lisa (Chris) O'Connor of Rapid City, and Jay (Janell) Yohner of Martin and her two great-grandchildren John Michael Petrik of Lawrence, Kansas, and Logan Brueckner of Portland, Oregon.

In addition to her husband John, Dorothy was preceded in death by her four brothers Bob, Lowell, Don and Wesley and three sisters Norma, Bonnie and Marlyn and the Petrik family members of her generation.
