She was born on Aug. 20, 1918, in Whitehall, the daughter of Paul and Anna (Pagarella) Leonbruno.
Mrs. French was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church of Whitehall.
She was a 1936 graduate of Whitehall High School.
Mrs. French was united in marriage to widower, Sgt. First Class Douglas William Blankschen, in 1945. He was killed in the Korean War in 1950. In 1968, she and New York State Police Sgt., Kenneth French were united in marriage. He passed away in 1979.
She was employed for General Electric Company in Hudson Falls, retiring in 1970.
Mrs. French had many passions in life. Among those were competitive bowling in the Glens Falls area for many years. She was an avid sports fan enjoying many sporting events, especially the New York Giants, Notre Dame football and the Duke University basketball team. She prided herself on her ability to make delicious pies. She donated them to many church events and gave them as gifts to her family and friends.
Besides her late husbands, she was predeceased by her brother, David Leonbruno, her sister, Mary Gooley, and stepson, Keith French.
Survivors include her three daughters with Douglas, who are Joan Smith of Colonie, Mary French and her son-in–law/stepson, Gary French, of Whitehall, and Shirley DeStafeno and her husband, Peter Pociluyko, of Castleton, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Douglas Smith of Texas, Gregory Smith and Jennifer Smith, both of Colonie, Mark French of Saratoga Springs, and Scott French of Newhall, Calif., four great-grandchildren, Bixby French, Travis French, Nicholas French and Grayce French, two brothers, Paul Leonbruno of Rome, N.Y., and John Leonbruno of Florida, two sisters, Lucy Waters and Jo Twyman, both of Whitehall, 20 nieces and nephews and several great- nieces, -nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2007, at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Skene Street, Whitehall with the Rev. Francis Dunbar officiating.
A Rite of Burial will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Whitehall.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, at the Michael G. Angiolillo Funeral Home, 210 Broadway, Whitehall.
