Charles Richard "Dick" Amos, 80, of Parkersburg died March 13, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

He was born in Washington, W.Va., Aug. 15, 1925, a son of the late Charles O. Amos and Ferro Lee Edelen Amos. He was Protestant by faith. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and received his bachelor of arts degree from Marietta College, Marietta. He was a life member of Parkersburg BPO Elks 198, member of Parkersburg Post 15 American Legion, past president of Marietta College Alumni Association, long time member of Marietta College Alumni Council and Board of Directors, life member of Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, past vice president of the Senior Men's Golf Association and life member of American Philatelic Society. He was retired from E.I. Dupont de Nemours & Co. Washington Works with almost 42 years of service. He retired as area superintendent of purchasing and shipping division at DuPont's Washington Works. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a sergeant in the 30th Field Artillery Battalion in Germany.

Survivors include a niece, Anna Sherrard Janis of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two nephews, Pressley H. Sherrard of Windermere, Fla., and Stephen Sherrard of Weston, W.Va.; and a cousin, Marian Matella of Wheeling, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Sherrard Amos; and sister, Ruth Amos.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with the Rev. Clifford Sutherland officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to The Mary Jane Sherrard Amos and Charles R. "Dick" Amos ‘59 Scholarship Fund at Marietta College, 215 Fifth Street, Marietta, OH 45750.
