Nancy graduated from Jamestown High School and was a member of the third nursing class to graduate from Fort Hays State University. Nancy married on August 31, 1957 in Scottsville, KS. She worked in surgery at the St. Joseph Hospital and worked for the Cloud County Health Department for about 11 years until she went to work for USD 333 as the school nurse for 25 years until her retirement.
Nancy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served in several capacities but was best known for her help with many church dinners. She was a member of the Kansas State Nurses Association, P.E.O., Beta Sigma Phi, Elks Club and thoroughly enjoyed her 'Pickles' group. She served on both the Pawnee Mental Health and hospital boards.
Nancy had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed telling about her experiences from all her years as the school nurse. During one such time, she had to put a dead dog in her car trunk and transport it from Aurora to be tested for rabies. It had bit one of the teachers. Another story involved a student that swallowed a thumbtack. And of course all the times students got their tongues stuck on cold bus windows after a dare. Her philosophy of taking each day as it came spilled over with raising three boys. She became a willing participant of fishing, camping, hunting, and a spectator of numerous sports.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 65 years, sons, sister, grandchildren, great granddaughter, and a host of friends and all the students she served during her tenure as 'Nurse Nancy'.
She was preceded by her parents and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS with Pastor Al Paredes officiating. Burial will follow at the Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown, KS.
