Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2022 at Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel for Mr. Thomas Arthur Ryan, 84, of Attalla, AL who passed away Monday, October 17, 2022 peacefully at home after a long battle with Dementia. Mr. Rick Beam will officiate with burial at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Ryan was born April 5, 1938 to Albert and Emma Ryan of Alabama City.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Melba Sue England Ryan. She was by his side until the end. Those that have cared for a loved one with Dementia know the mental and physical hardship it puts on a caregiver. Sue faced it with much courage, compassion, devotion and love.
Also surviving are his children, Pam Ryan (Benny) Butler, Altoona, AL, Tony (Bonnie) Ryan, Ft. Payne, AL, Jeffery Lamar (Michele) Ryan, New Orleans, LA.; grandchildren, Caleb (Ana) Ryan, Annaca Ryan (Paul) Harrison, Jeffery Dale Ryan and Avery Ryan; great grandchildren, Raven and Sawyer Ryan. Sister, Gail Ryan (Harold) Sherrell and many nieces and nephews.
Arthur worked for Republic Steel/Gulf State Steel until his retirement in 2002. After retiring he enjoyed outdoor gardening where he grew his favorite flowers, Day Lilies. He was always proud to show off his garden of flowers to everyone that visited. He was the proud recipient of the Beautification Award three years straight.
He loved nothing better than to play a good game of Sand Mountain Rook with close friends and family. For many years Arthur and Sue enjoyed traveling the U.S.
The family will receive friends from noon until the hour of service at the funeral home Friday.
