On February 15, death angels quietly slipped into Petersburg General Hospital and gently took the soul of our beloved husband and father to his eternal rest. He was born to Freeman and Sally J. Jones Watkins on June 14, 1928 in South Boston, VA. Both his parents preceded him in death. Dewey professed faith in Christ at an early age and joined Ebenezer CME Church in South Boston, VA. He was a veteran of World War II, serving over ten years for his country, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Dorothy London and to this union one son was born. He was a devoted husband and father. He leaves to mourn their loss a devoted wife, Dorothy Watkins; two sons, Dewey Freeman Watkins II of Clarksville, TN and DeSanta Bryant Watkins (Leola Jones) of Petersburg, VA.; one brother, Thomas Watkins, NYC; four sisters, Mary Wyatt, NYC; Louise Brown, Roanoke VA; Irene Wood, South Boston, VA; and, Annie Wooding of Lovingston, VA; a step-mother, Mrs. Mary Watkins, South Boston, VA; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Watkins, South Boston; Katherine Dukes, Clarksville VA; Alice Bowden, Milwaukee, WI; three aunts, Bertha Davis, Roanoke, VA; Willie Ann White and Betty Robinson, Newport News, VA.; one uncle, Hubert Watkins, Lynchburg VA; one brother-in-law, Isaac Brown, Roanoke; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
