AMORY – Joe Lloyd Brasfield, 69, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson after an extended illness. He was born April 5, 1938, in Smithville to the late William Floyd and Daisy Corinne Comer Brasfield. He was a lifelong resident of Monroe County living in the Mt. Zion community and in Amory. He was married to Brenda Burrow in 1957. He was a member of the Mississippi National Guard and a member of the First Baptist Church in Amory. He worked in commercial knife sharpening and as a retail merchant. He enjoyed his children and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed sports activities especially baseball.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Amory with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating, along with Joseph Brasfield, Jillian Brasfield and Johnny Burrow. Burial will be in the Pearce Chapel Cemetery. E.E. Pickle is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Brenda Burrow Brasfield of Amory; two sons, Joe Lloyd Jr. and his wife, Pat, of Waycross, Ga., and Craig Burrow Brasfield and his wife, Carrie, of McAllen, Texas; five sisters, June Brasfield Williams and Betty Brasfield Williams, both of Amory , Lane Brasfield Johnson of Tupelo, Janice Brasfield Lann of Smithville, and Deborah Brasfield Akola of Willow, Ark.; five grandchildren, Joseph Burrow Brasfield, Jillian Christaine Brasfield, Baron Burrow Brasfield, Brett Lee Brasfield and Blade Burlee Brasfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by one brother, Ruble Brasfield.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Brasfield, Jillian Brasfield, Earl Stevens, Thomas Carroll, Curtis Lewellen, Lester Cagle, Don Leech, Billy Pete Leech, Bobby Hill, Jerry Reese, Pete Randle, Keith Steele and Jimmy Williams.

Visitation will be from 12:45 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Amory or to First Friends, P.O. Box 540, Amory, MS 38821.
