Mrs. T. L. Higginbotham a Lincoln County, GA native who had attained the age of 104 years, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Daisy Hinton, 34 E. Street, Anderson at 11:30 o'clock Monday Night. Although Mrs. Higginbotham had been in declining health for the past few months, she was able to be up and set with the family on the porch Monday night until she retired. She was later stricken and died within a few minutes. Mrs. Higginbotham, affectionately known as "Granny" by those who knew her was born and reared in Lincoln County, GA and was Miss Louisa Stribling before marriage. She was twice married her first husband, Poat Ferguson, proceeded her to the grave fifty years ago. Of this union there were 4 children. She later married John Higginbotham of Elberton, GA. who died in 1918.
Until some 8 months ago Mrs. Higginbotham lived in Calhoun Falls, coming to Anderson to make her home with her daughter. Despite her advanced years she possessed a fine memory, and being of optimistic nature, looked on the bright side of things, she was loved by a wide circle of relatives and friends. Early in life Mrs. Higginbotham united with the Methodist denomination and as long as health permitted was an active member of the Gordon Street Church in Elberton, GA.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Daisy Hinton, Anderson and Mrs. Bessie Holmes, Gastonia, N.C. 1 brother Rainey Stribling of Wilkes County, GA also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the 2nd Baptist Church of Anderson this afternoon at 4:30 with the Rev. Preston Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Branch church cemetery near Elberton, GA with the Price Funeral Home in charge. Active pallbearers: J.D. Jennings, John Holmes, Fred Ballard, Herwain Moore, and Horan Crocker. Flower girls: Jeanettes Motes, Geneva Ballard. Nora Bell Mize and Frances Jennings.
