A Minor but Typical Memory of Marion:
Marion kept chickens and allowed them to range free during the day. When - as was inevitable - one of them was taken by a predator, her only comment was, "Well, up until that last moment, it had a very good life, for a chicken."

Marion Lindsey Butson Allen, 85
Franklin, NH - Marion Allen, longtime Wilmot, NH resident died of congestive heart failure on March 25, 2023 at Peabody Place in Franklin. She was born Marion Louise Butson in Haverhill, NH to the late Vena Hatch and Perley Butson. Marion attended Woodsville High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from UNH and a Masters in Library Science from URI. Her 35 year career as a librarian included; New London Hospital Medical Library, Colby-Sawyer College Library and NH Hospital's Dorothy M. Breene Memorial Library.
Marion was the NH representative for Clan Lindsay USA for 26 years at the NH Highland Games. As an avid hiker, she had climbed all 48 4000-foot mountains in NH, and 5 in Maine before reaching the age of 55. Marion was a long-standing member of the Kearsarge Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Andover, NH where she served in many capacities and was a member of the League of Women Voters, Wilmot Community Association, Wilmot Garden Club, Wilmot Democratic Committee, Wilmot Conservation Commission Chairperson as well as the Wilmot Ladies Aid Society. She loved to read and garden.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Belinda (Allen) Nerl and husband John of Londonderry, NH, her daughter Heather (Allen) Hietala of Asheville, NC, son Bruce Allen and wife Patricia Shaw Allen of New London, NH, daughter Jennifer (Allen) Giles and husband Charles Giles of New London, NH, brother John Butson and wife Bonnie of Woodsville, NH, sister Jane Lowell Chroniak and husband John of Green Valley, AZ and Joan Lowell of Peterborough, NH, grandchildren; Kristof and Gabrielle Nerl, Jeremy and Emily Nerl, Abigail Allen, Duncan and Rhys Van Etten, and numerous nieces and nephews She was predeceased by her parents and stepfather Lloyd Lowell, her brother Robert Butson and his wife Margaret and her ex-spouse Peter H. Allen.
Arrangements: Calling hours at Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, NH will be held on Thursday April 27th from 4-6pm. A Memorial Service is Scheduled for Friday April 28th at 11 am at the First Congregational Church, Wilmot Center, NH. A burial ceremony will be held at a later date in Newbury, VT. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pope Memorial SPCA, Concord-Merrimack County and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England.
