DEATH NOTICE

McLEOD -- Entered into rest in this City on August 18th, 1940, John J. McLeod, dearly beloved husband of Pearle Ellison, formerly of Cookshire, Que. Funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon, August 20th at Blake and Taylor's, 86 Queen Street, at 1:30 p.m. Conducted by the Rev. Mr. Graham and the Rev. Mr. R. Carr, of Cookshire.

Interment in Cookshire Cemetery.

DEATH CLAIMS JOHN McLEOD AT AGE OF 78

Former Member of Local Provincial Revenue Office Staff Succumbed to Stroke -- Resided in Cookshire.

John McLeod, seventy-eight-year-o1d resident of Cookshire, died yesterday noon in the Sherbrooke Hospital from effects of a stroke suffered several days ago, and news of his death will be learned with regret throughout the Eastern Townships.

The deceased was well known in this city, since he was employed for several years in the Provincial Revenue Office at the local Court House. For several years he lived in retirement at his home in Cookshire.

Born in 1862 on the Island of Lewis in the Hebrides Group off the Coast of Scotland, he came to Canada with his parents and first lived at Milan, later moving to Cookshire. After operating a general store in Cookshire, he served for several years as organizer for the Canadian Foresters, and then entered the employ of the Provincial Government, acting as a traffic officer before becoming attached to the Revenue Office here.

A Liberal in politics, Mr. McLeod was a member of Friendship Lodge No. 7 A.F. and A.M., and 3 Masonic service will be held at Blake and Taylor's Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon at one-thirty o'clock.

He was married twice. After the death of his first wife, Ellen Boyle, he married Pearl Ellison, of Sherbrooke, in 1912.

He is survived by his second wife. by two brothers in the United States and several nieces and nephews.
