Chico Enterprise-Record, Wednesday, 15 June 2005:

EVELYN H. SEAVERS

Services will be held Friday, June 17, at 2:30 p.m. at the F.D. Sweet and Son Mortuary in Orland for Evelyn H. Seavers who passed away Monday, June 13 at Enloe Hospital.
Evelyn was born July 1, 1923 in Boise, Idaho to Joseph C. and Vera M. Webster. While still an infant, her family relocated to the El Camino district south of Red Bluff. She attended local schools including a 1-room schoolhouse for a time and graduated from Red Bluff High at age 16 in 1941. After graduation, she moved to Pasadena to attend Pasadena City College. While there she boarded with a family and was their babysitter in exchange for room and board. She was hanging clothes on their backyard clothesline when Pearl Harbor was bombed. After graduation from junior college, she returned to the Gerber area where her family had settled by then. She also attended Chico State College for one year.
While employed at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, she met her future husband, Orland native, Joseph B. Seavers. He was a patient there. They married in Reno, Nev. On May 19, 1943. Together they farmed, raising sheep and turkeys and had a dairy at one point. They always lived north of Orland near Joe's large family. Five children were born to them. Evelyn was widowed in Sept. of 1978.
Evelyn was employed at the Cottage Cafe for 15 years. Retirement didn't suit her too well, and she was hired by the Senior Nutrition Center where she was always known for her smiling face. She loved going there each day and looked forward to greeting the seniors as they arrived. She will be greatly missed by the congregation there.
Family gatherings were a joy to Evelyn. She was always interested in the activities of her children and grandchildren. Highlights of her life were 2 trips to Australia and also attending the birth of her great-granddaughter Emily. The nurse had to tell her "Grandma, go sit down."
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Patricia Evans and Michael of Sacramento, James and wife Janet of Newport Ore., Barbara Roberts and husband Keith of Chico, Caryl Grundy and husband Tom of Orland, and Shelley Nault and husband Dan of Ramona. She was blessed with nine wonderful grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her brother Stan Webster of Sacramento, Brother Steve Webster of Bakersfield, and sister Maxine Brustick of Sperry, Okla. Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who were very dear to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Allen and Don. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery on County Road P. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Orland Senior Nutrition Center in her memory. Visitation will be held Fri. morning from 10 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. – Transcribed by E.
