Paul Francis Aaron of Austin, Texas, a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away in his sleep on April 8, 2023. He was 88 years old and lived a long, joyful life. He will be missed by his family and all that knew him. Above all, he will be remembered for his kindness towards, and caring of, all that he met.
Paul was born on June 29, 1934 in Wheeling, West Virginia. The oldest child of August Francis Aaron and Virginia (Carroll) Aaron.
He graduated from Central Catholic High School (Wheeling, WV) in 1952 where he was a star basketball player on two championship teams. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Air Force and was promptly stationed in Japan. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Hancock, on June 15, 1957 and began a marriage that lasted over 60 years until JoAnn passed in December 2017.
While in the Air Force, Paul and family were posted in Shreveport, Louisiana; Kansas City, Missouri; Anchorage, Alaska; Abilene, Texas; Nakhon Phanom, Thailand; and Syracuse, New York before retiring from the military in Austin, Texas in 1976. Thereafter, Paul continued his service to his country by joining the Veterans Administration in Austin until his retirement in 1996. He and Jo Ann remained in Austin.
Paul enjoyed sports all of his life. Paul joined the military base basketball team at every posting, bringing home his various trophies and awards at every stop. He was up for attending a sporting event at a moment's notice but nothing meant more to him than Notre Dame football. As a devout Catholic, he supported the Irish by attending a game in South Bend mostly every year well into his 80s.
Paul is survived by his family and many friends.
Rest in peace, sir.
