In 1951 Marge met and married George William (Bill) Lawrence of Kingston, New York. Marge and Bill had two daughters, Judith Anne and Linda Jean. Bill started a career in sales with Prudential Insurance Company, and the family moved five times during his climb up the corporate ladder. Marge taught her daughters to love reading and to enjoy the outdoors. She was a consummate seamstress and took pride in making her daughters school clothes and Halloween costumes.
In 1968, Bill took a month off work and the entire Lawrence family embarked on a cross-country trip to California. They saw the Grand Canyon, the Redwood Forest, Pueblo Indian dwellings, Disneyland, the Hearst Mansion, and Mount Rushmore.
In their leisure time, Marge and Bill enjoyed bowling, square dancing and golf. As time went on, Marge became a talented golfer, winning the ladies golf tournament at the Bartlett Country Club in Olean, New York several years in a row. When Bill retired, the couple moved to Ocala, Florida, where they lived right next to a golf course and Marge played several times a week. Community service was important to Marge. She was a life-long Methodist and a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She taught Sunday School, volunteered with the Girl Scouts and read to children at the local elementary school. Marge and Bill were founding members of the Ocala Community Church.
Marge and Bill continued to travel in retirement. They enjoyed trips to the Canadian Rockies, Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, and England, Scotland and Wales.
Marge and Bill had been married for 66 years when Bill passed away in 2017. Family was the most important thing in Marge's life. Her two daughters, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren
were the light of her life. She never tired of visiting with them and bragging about them. She will be greatly missed. Marjorie Brower Lawrence will be buried alongside her husband Bill in Quantico
National Cemetery.
