Body Taken to Edenton His Old Home for Funeral and Burial

Prominent Young Chemist of City Passed at St Peter’s Hospital Result of Pneumonia

Frank Parker Drane, prominent In business and fraternal circles In Charlotte and a resident of this city for the past eight years died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning at St Peter's hospital after an illness of 10 days, death being due to pneumonia. With Mr. Drane when he passed away were his father and his mother Rev. and Mrs. Robert Brent Drane of Edenton. The mother of the deceased arrived In the city last Monday and Mr. Drane came Sunday.

The body was taken to Edenton yesterday morning at 10 o'clock accompanied by the parents and Mrs. Brent S. Drane, sister-in-law of the deceased. Brent S. Drane was in Alabama at the time of his brother's death. The funeral service will he conducted at St Paul's Episcopal Church In Edenton today. Rev. Mr. Drane, who is one of the most prominent clergymen of the Episcopal diocese of eastern North Carolina and president of the standing committee of that diocese, has been rector of St. Paul's church throughout his ministry.

Frank Parker Drane was born In Edenton in September 1886, being 32 years old. Upon graduating from the grammar school at that place, he attended Horner's Military school. Afterwards he went to the State university, graduating there in 1906 .He took a port-graduate course at the university along special lines of study, after which he became connected with the state geological department. Under this department he spent sometime surveying in the state.

Coming to Charlotte, he was made assistant assayer at the old United States mint. Later he was made assayer. For the last three or four years he has been engaged in chemical work, having laboratories on South Church street opposite The Observer building.

A member of St. Peter's Episcopal church and a steadfast Christian, Mr. Drane was most active In religious work. Besides being one of the leaders of St. Peter’s Sunday school, he conducted Sunday school in North Charlotte. He was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon society.

Mr. Drane was a Mason and a Shriner, being a member of Charlotte chapter No. 39 Royal Arch Masons, Phalanx lodge No. 31 A. F. & A. M., and Charlotte commandery No. 32 Knights Templar, and a member of Oasis temple. He was secretary of the Charlotte Rotary club. At the meeting of the local Rotarians last Tuesday, a letter signed by all the Rotarians in attendance expressing regret at Mr. Drane’s illness was presented to him while In the hospital.

Surviving besides his parents are the following six brothers and sisters: Brent R. Drane, of Charlotte; Mrs. Cheshire Webb, of Raleigh; Capt. Robert Drane, of the medical corps of the army now serving In France; Rev. Fred Drane, Episcopal missionary In Alaska; Misses Katherine and Marlon Drane, of Edenton, students at St Mary's Episcopal college, Raleigh.
