Justin Z. Smith, 22, of Dorn Spur Road, passed away at his home on Friday, April 7, 2023, after fighting a battle with addiction.
He was born in Lowville, on April 6, 2001, a son of Walter H. and Mona M. Grabowski Smith, Jr. Justin grew up on Dorn Spur Road and received his education at Adirondack Central School, Boonville. In his youth he enjoyed playing baseball. He was employed as a heavy truck mechanic for Leitz Trucking Corp. of Frankfort.
Justin lived for hunting season and fishing seasons; he greatly enjoyed hunting with his dad, brother and friends on the rolling hills of his homestead near Boonville. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones and working on his truck, with his nephew Noah.
In addition to his parents, Walter and Mona, of Boonville, Justin is survived by one sister, Alexis M. Smith, Boonville; one brother and sister in law, Derek M. Smith and Tory (Rogers) Smith, Port Leyden; the love of his life, Nicole Lighthall; maternal grandfather, Stanley J. Grabowski, Watertown/Port Leyden; nieces and nephews, McKenna, Noah, Addisyn and Amelia; aunts and uncles, Jim and Heather Smith, Florida, James Smith and wife, Tamara Smith, Heidi (Grabowski) and husband, David Williamson, Boonville, Sonja (Grabowski) Downing, Port Leyden, Timothy Grabowski, Port Leyden, many cousins and friends, especially mentioning Tuff Sturtevant, who was like a brother to Justin. Justin was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Walter and Wanda Smith, maternal grandmother, Nancy Grabowski, uncles, Eric Grabowski and Kenneth Augustyn and his best friends, Alex Nellenbach and Dustin Lynch.
