Joseph Peter Kessel, born February 24, 1979 in Chicago, IL, passed away suddenly on April 05, 2023, at the age of 44 years old. Joe graduated from Loyola Academy HS in 1997 and Western Illinois University in 2001. He worked for the Chicago Police Department as a dedicated Civil Servant for 22+ years where he was awarded many department commendations, multiple Honorable mention awards, and Officer of the Month awards. His favorite past times included attending baseball games, kids sports activities, Blackhawks games, traveling and reading. He will be best remembered for his great smile, sense of humor, his laugh, being a prolific writer and storyteller, loyalty, friendship, and the ability to talk to anyone.

Lovingly remembered by his wife of 17 years Tiffany Kessel; adored father to John Kessel, Matthew Kessel and Lillian Kessel, cherished son of Catherine Kessel, preceded in death by his father, John Kessel, beloved brother to Matt (Heather) Kessel; loving uncle to Aubrey (Casey) Faber, Caitlyn (Cody) Pope, and John (Kate) Kessel.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation for Joseph on Sunday, April 16th, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, (Edward A. Tylka, Manager), 6000 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60646 with the St. Jude Chapel Service being held at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon at St. Edward Catholic Church, 4350 West Sunnyside Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60630. Cremation will follow in private following all services.
