Jean wished part of her ashes to be buried next to her mother's in Mississippi and the remainder spread on the island of Patmos.

Jean Nolin, age 53, of Niceville, Fla., passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly the morning of March 11, 2008, doing what she loved, checking on her Covenant Hospice patients.

She was born on March 14, 1954, in Jackson, Miss., and moved to Niceville in 1990.

She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Verbillis from Patmos, Greece, and her mother, Rose Shepard from Walnut Grove, Miss.

She was able to make two trips to Patmos, where she spent extended time on that island where her father was born.

She had always wanted to become a nurse and specialize in Geriatric Nursing and she began her career at the age of 38 in the Niceville area as a Registered Nurse at Twin Cities Hospital, and later at Choctaw Valley Home Health, where she served for a period of time as the Director of Nursing in Crestview, Fla., only with the agreement that she could still see patients. She also worked at The Manor at Bluewater Bay, and found her true passion at the Niceville office of Covenant Hospice. She declined supervisory positions when she felt that her time would be taken away from her time with her patients. Her patients meant everything to her and she would go above and beyond the calling to assist them.

She and her husband were very active Foster Care Parents for a number of years, where she served for a period as the president of the South Okaloosa Foster Parent Association.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Walt Nolin, and children, including Rebecca, a first-grade teacher in Jacksonville, Fla., and Jeremy and Ashley of Niceville; brother, John Verbillis of Bel Air, Md.; brother, Louis Verbillis of Fort Meyers, Fla.; and many loving extended family members. She always looked after her husband and provided everything her children needed.

Her family is very grateful to the nursing staff of The Manor at Bluewater Bay who were her first responders and very appreciative to the North Bay Fire Department, Okaloosa County EMS and The Twin Cities Hospital Emergency Room staff, all of whom were very supportive and comforting to her husband while they gave a supreme effort to save her life.

It was her wishes to donate her organs as much as possible and be cremated. She wished part of her ashes to be buried next to her mother's in Mississippi and the remainder spread on the island of Patmos.

The visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Friday, March 14, from 3 to 4 p.m., with the memorial service at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a memorial fund in memory of Jean at the First National Bank and Trust of Niceville, or to Covenant Hospice of Niceville.
