Matthew Barton "Bart" Hamby, Jr. passed away peacefully at Baptist Springhill Medical Center
in North Little Rock, Arkansas, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the age of 73. He was
surrounded with love and family by his side as he met Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
Born on September 19, 1949 in Henryetta, OK, to Matthew Barton and Esther Louise Blackbird,
Bart grew up in the small town of Weleetka, OK. It was there that he and his brother, Jim, led a
childhood filled with wonderful memories of hunting, fishing and other outdoorsy-adventures
that he loved to reminisce about and share.

In 1969 he was drafted to the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. After discharge he
attended East Central University in Ada, OK, where he was a proud member the Pi Kappa Alpha
fraternity and earned a B.A. in History. He went on to build a fascinating career as an insurance
claims adjuster. Throughout his career he assessed damage from some of the largest natural
disasters around the US for State Farm Insurance in Oklahoma City and with EMC Insurance in
Little Rock, AR, where he later retired.

Bart was a prolific writer who enjoyed researching and developing fantastical characters into
beautifully written manuscripts. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and browsing
locally owned shops carrying interesting and unique inventories. He was a faithful member of
Asbury United Methodist Church in Little Rock, where he enjoyed attending the Men's Bible
Study Group.

Family was important to Bart and he valued his relationships with immediate and extended
family alike. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Shelley Hamby of Ada,
Oklahoma; three nieces, Alison Raymer and her husband, Scott of Springdale, Arkansas,
Elizabeth Thompson and her husband, Philip of Ada, Oklahoma, Kathryn Conrady and her
husband, Chris of Omaha, Nebraska; three (soon to be four) great nieces and two great nephews.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2023 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Weleetka,
Oklahoma with Bud Ross officiating. The family suggests memorials, in lieu of flowers, be
made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, 1700 Napa Valley Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas
72212.
