Son of Henry Pharr and wife, Margaret Bain Pharr, of Cabarrus County NC. He was born into the large Pharr family in the Rocky River section of southern Cabarrus County NC and grew up at Rocky River Presbyterian Church there.

First wife was Jeannette McGinnis whom he married on 22 Jan 1824 in Cabarrus County NC. She died 25 months later on 24 Feb 1826 in Cabarrus County NC and is believed to have died with her child in childbirth.

Second wife was Martha Caroline Orr whom he married 26 Jul 1827 in Mecklenburg County NC. They moved their family to Issaquena County MS in 1844 and she and their youngest child died there in 1846 possibly in childbirth.

He and Caroline Orr Pharr were parents of:

After moving his family to Issaquena County MS in 1844, Elias bought a large farm which he named "Farrland Farm" with the name "Farrland" probably based on his surname of Pharr. He died there at his farm in 1853.

Third wife was Ursula Mary Alexander who he married 14 Mar 1848 in Shelby County TN.

He and Ursula Mary Pharr were parents of:
Ursula Eunce M. Pharr b. 18 Aug 1851 and married Milton I Hamilton

After Elias died in 1853, his widow and young daughter moved back to live near her family in Shelby County TN. His widow died in 1859 in Shelby County TN leaving their daughter orphaned at age 8.

In addition to being a farmer, Elias also served as Clerk of Court for Issaquena County MS.
