Funeral services for Wm. Travis Greenwade, 66, of Meridian, who
died suddenly on Friday evening, Jan. 8, 1988, at his residence, were
held Monday at 2 p.m. on Jan. 11 in Meridian First Baptist Church. Rev.
Richard Creech and Minister Clayton Young officiating. Burial was in
Meridian Cemetery with the Iredell VFW in charge of full military
honors. Funeral arrangements were handled by Lawson Funeral Home.
Born William Travis Greenwade on Dec. 4, 1921, in Meridian, he was
the son of Lillie Behringer Greenwade and the late Pike Greenwade. He
was raised and educated in Meridian. He lived in San Diego, Calif., for
a number of years where he worked for Convair before entering the U.S.
Army in 1944. He had served in WW II, Korea, and Viet Nam before
retiring in 1964. While in the service, Mr. Greenwade received numerous
commendations and medals for his faithful service to his country. He
retired as a Platoon Sergeant. After his retirement he worked for an
oil company offshore drilling firm. He was an active member of the
Iredell VFW.
Pallbearers were Donald Garwood, James Garwood, Keith Greenwade,
Russell Dittfurth, Garry Harris, and Hubert Kennedy.
Survivors include his mother, Lillie Greenwade of Meridian; two
brothers, Carthol Greenwade and Ernest Greenwade, both of Meridian; two
sisters, Pauline Garwood and Lila Dittfurth, both of Ft. Worth, and a
number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
