Steffie was a special lady. She was an amazing crocheter with the finest of threads. She made excellent Hungarian Cookies for Christmas, was the best QVC Shopper, an expert wall-paperer who could even do ceilings, a dedicated Garage Sale Shopper, a card player, a loving babysitter, and a great waffle-make that delighted her grandchildren.
Steffie had a special relationships with the people she loved and who loved her back.
She was a loving sister, with many stories about their lives at 44 Ingham Ave, with the chickens, the Depression, St Hyacinth's Church, the card parties, the grocery store with the little book to keep tab of purchases, the porch with the climbing roses, the big sheepdog, the christening dress that all babies in each succeeding generation wore, the first time they borrowed "electricity" from the neighbors to light a Christmas Tree. Ten children, born to a poor Polish immigrant couple, but rich in love, spirit, laughter, and family. These are special stories to be passed down.
She was a loving wife to Eddie. When they married, June 10, 1944, she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas while he served in the Army Air Corps, and later awaited his return from Anchorage before the birth of their daughter. Forty years later, she prayed and & cried as cancer took him from her.
She was a devoted mother to her only child, over-protective to a fault, but always with love, concern and pride.
She was the "best ever" grandmother! She let the kids play hockey in the basement, breaking every window and light bulb. She welcomed them all back to live in Grandma's boarding house, along with assorted cats, dogs, chinchillas, fish, and birds. She tolerated the destruction of her home and couch to the cats!
She was a cherished great-grandmother who played dinosaurs, sang silly songs, and went for walks in the leaves and snow.
She wanted to best for those she loved. She gave from her heart, which was warm and kind and gentle. We are all blessed for having known her.
In her memory, please give a compliment, a kiss, a pat on the back. Share your time, share your blessings, be gentle.
