Oren Rector, 90, Kempton, died at 8:33 p.m. Feb. 22, 2008, at Tipton Hospital.

He was born April 14, 1917, in Kempton to Oscar and Ruth King Rector. On Sept. 3, 1939, he married Margaret Pulliam, and she died Sept. 6, 1996.

Oren was a minister, school teacher, principal and farmer. He had been a member of the Kempton Christian Church and was a minister in Christian Churches for 25 years. He was a teacher and administrator for 27 years and substituted in area schools after that for 10 more years.

Oren served on the Tipton County Council for 20 years. He was honored by Purdue University for 50 years of 4-H leadership. He belonged to the local Kiwanis Club and had been a member of Gideons International before becoming a minister.

Survivors include one daughter, Vickey R. McCorkle of Tipton; one son, Oren Rector Jr. and wife Gerry of Atlanta, Ga; two grandchildren, Fritz McCorkle and wife Judy, Noblesville, and Captain Jenny McCorkle, USAF, Grand Forks, N.D.; and one great-granddaughter, Madison McCorkle.

He was preceded in death by one son, Teddy Wayne Rector, and one brother, Chester V. Rector.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kempton Christian Church with the Revs. Ed Smith, Marshall Hill and Ron Whitacre officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. today at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton, and beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
