James L. "Jim" Abbot, 97, of Quarryville, formerly of Levittown, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the loving husband of the late Florence Y. (Young) Abbot, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2009.

Born in Luzerne, PA, he was the son of the late Edwin W., Sr., and Chella M. (Underwood) Abbot.

Following high school, Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He then attended Lehigh University and earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, graduating in 1950. Jim found employment as an engineer with US Steel at their Fairless Hills location, retiring in 1983 with 33 years of service. For many years, Jim was an active member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Levittown, serving as a deacon and an elder.

Jim is survived by his children, Peggy (Michael) Gygi, James Lloyd (Donna) Abbot, Patricia (Robert) Mitchiner, David (Sherry) Abbot, Donna (Kim) Peterson, Nancy (Paul) Seegmiller, and Jennifer (Leon) Schwab. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Abbot, brothers, Edwin, Jr., and Nathaniel Abbot, twin sister, Chella Lewis, and sister, Jessie Abbot.

A Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, in the Ellingsworth Auditorium of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA 17566, with a visitation from 9:30 am – 10 a.m. (Please enter through the main entrance of the Long Building). Interment will take place promptly at 1:30 p.m. in the Newtown Cemetery, 619 Newtown-Yardley Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
