BALTIMORE -- Irene Eva Anthony Shockey died of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) Friday, May 23, 1997, in Pleasant Living Convalescent Center. She was 74.
She was born in Greensboro July 7, 1922, to the late William and Susie Flowers Anthony. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1939.
Mrs. Shockey was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Shockey, in 1990; five brothers, Robert, William, Wilbert, Paul and Virgil; and a granddaughter,
She is survived by two sons, Charles Likens of Baltimore and James Likens of Pasadena; a daughter, Barbara Shockey Carlson of Millersville; three grandsons, Robbie Likens of Boonsboro, Matt Likens of Pasadena, and Bobby Carlson of Millersville; a great-grandson, Marty Beckner of Pasadena; four brothers, Preston Anthony of Denton, S. Lewis Anthony of Greensboro, Dawson Anthony of Federalsburg and Stanley Anthony of Wyoming, Del.; three sisters, Ann Jester of Federalsburg, Kathryn "Kitty" Ottinger of Dover, Del., and Virginia Cahall of Locust Grove, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Service and burial were Tuesday, May 27, at 1 p.m. in Gonce Funeral Home, Baltimore.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to ALS Fund Association, 21021 Ventura Blvd., No. 321, Woodland Hills, CA 91364.
