Funeral Monday, Feb. 29, at 9 a.m. from late residence, 3000 N. Menard av. to St. Ferdinand's church, where requiem high mass will be celebrated. Interment Flemington, N.J. The town of his birth was actually Mauch Chunk and the name was changed to Jim Thorpe in 1954 in honor of the Native American sports legend who attended the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, about a hundred miles southwest of Jim Thorpe.
