Lon Thomas May, age 87, of Martin, passed away April 7, 2023, at Weakley County Nursing Home. Memorial services at Bowlin Funeral Home with burial in Sunset Cemetery.

Lon was the youngest child of Ira Irvin May and Dorothy Ethel Wagner. He graduated from Newton High School, Newton, IL, in 1954. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University majoring in music, then began his career as a teacher in the Downers Grove, IL public school system where he taught for thirty-eight years. He received his Masters of Music degree from Northern Illinois University.

Mr. May helped to form the Downers Grove Children's Choir which he directed for many years. He also served as the choir director for a number of Episcopal and Methodist churches in the Chicagoland area for thirty-five years. He was the first musical director of the Grove Players which produced Broadway musicals, and also sang for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

He is survived by his wife Charlotte May, son and daughter-in-law and one granddaughter; one brother and one sister. Preceded in death by sisters Lenora May Seely and Irene May Jones; brother John W. May; two half-brothers, George W. May and Melvin May; two half-sisters, Rhea May Whitener and Mildred May Jansen.
